The founder of Treasure Products, shares his story of how the products and the company were born.
I have been metal detecting since 1994. I became hooked after finding my first nickel at the beach. After that it became my obsession. Within a year I owned five detectors. I love to hunt parks, vacant lots, or any old ground area where many people have congregated. For this type hunting, where digging in mud, grass and hard ground is required, I used a detector that had excellent discrimination, pinpointing accuracy, as well as indicating the depth of the target.
However I felt this type of treasure hunting was lacking in capability. No matter what I tried, metal probes or digging a plug and waving it in front of my detector, they all failed to expedite that satisfaction of quickly holding the target in my hand. It just took too long! That's when I began looking at Pinpointing detectors.
Of all the Pinpointers I researched, none lived up to my full expectations. They had lights that were difficult to see in the daylight, they had buzzers that I couldn't hear (especially while wearing my headset from my primary detector). They were fragile. Pressing in the ground while probing could easily break them. Worse than that, they detected in the same manner from the tip of the probe all the way down the shaft about 2 or 3 inches. To me that isn't pinpointing! Also they weren’t waterproof. Often times when washed off they didn't work anymore because water had leaked in.
Given my frustration with pinpointing detectors, I decided to take it upon myself to design a pinpointer that would meet the needs of the treasure hunter. I specified that it would use Pulse Induction (PI) Technology so the probe could be used in any environment including salt water and black sand. It had to be strong enough to probe the soil and not break. It had to clearly indicate distance to the target without relying on sound or lights. It had to detect at the tip and only the tip. And it had to be waterproof. In addition I wanted it to have a holster so it can be conveniently carried and at the ready.
After years of development the Vibra-Probe™ was born--a waterproof, Pulse Induction Pinpointer that signals using vibration and is strong enough to really probe the soil without breaking. And it comes with a holster.
Building on the technology of the Vibra-Probe™ we created the Vibra-Tector™ and Vibra-Phone™. The E-Z Swing™ was another product born out of necessity. It solved the strain that swinging a heavy metal detector all day can put on your body.
